Our members are more than just statistics though; they are also a community. And our community is always growing, sometimes with whole new groups. This year our Local Chapters, Student Chapters, Young Professional Community and Women in Geoscience and Engineering Community were joined by:
>āLC Netherlands
>āLC Czech Rep
>āLC East Africa
>āLC Tosmk-Krasnoyarsk-Novosibirsk
> The Energy Transition & Decarbonization Community
> The Artificial Intelligence Community
Of course, success isnāt a number- itās a story! Here are some of the fun success stories from this year from our regions and departments. Not all of these were our biggest events, or our widest read publications, but they touch on some of the diversity that lies at the heart of our multidisciplinary association.
The DigitalGeoHack (15-16 Nov 2019, Paris) Local event organized by Local Chapter Paris in collaboration with IPGP, successfully engaging members of 3 different special interest communities: women in geoscience, young professionals and artificial intelligence. This event was described as innovative, productive and useful for networking by the participants, who were 50% data science specialists and 50% geoscientists working together on a set of different problems.
After a two-year break, the 8th International Geosciences Student Conference (IGSC) is back, it was organized by EAGE student Chapters and took place in Uppsala, Sweden on 16-20 June with the EAGE Student Fund as one of the sponsors. 9th International Geosciences Student Conference (IGSC) will take place 5-11 June 2020 in the The RWTH Aachen University. in Aachen, Germany, and EAGE student chapters are leading the organization of one event made by students for students.
Artificial Intelligence has firmly taken its place in the Education portfolio: Data Science was added as a new category to the short course catalogue and now contains 5 courses. The Education Days Amsterdam, which took place in November 2019, were themed around Machine Learning and proved a very successful event.
As you can see, itās been quite a year. And none of this would have been possible without our loyal members. So with the end of the year approaching, let us say:
Thanks for being with EAGE throughout 2019!
We hope that youāll join us again for 2020, which promises to hold even more surprises!
